To qualify for a community college scholarship, students must be enrolled in a community college during the term of the regular academic year immediately preceding the term in which the student will enroll at Mississippi State University.

Community College Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
Two-year award, $3,200 ($800 per semester)
Requirements:

  • Admission to MSU by April 1, 2008
  • Completion of at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU (submit a three-semester transcript showing at least 36 completed; 12 hours may be in progress at time of application), a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5, and a membership in Phi Theta Kappa.

Community College Recognition Scholarships
Two year award, $1,600 ($400 per semester)
Requirements:

  • Admission to MSU by April 1, 2008 priority date
  • Completion of at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor's degree at MSU (submit a three-semester transcript showing at least 36 hours completed; 12 hours may be in progress at time of application) and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0.

The application deadline for these scholarships is April 1, 2008 for students who will enter in the fall 2008 semester. The deadline for students who will enter in the spring 2009 semester is November 1, 2008.

There are also a few College of Engineering and departmental scholarships available for community college transfer students. The application deadline for College of Engineering scholarships is April 1, 2008. Departmental scholarship deadlines vary widely by department, so it is advisable to contact the appropriate department during the fall semester a year before entrance.
