A good college education offers a student many opportunities for learning inside and outside of the classroom. A National Study of Student Engagement studied 523 four-year colleges and universities and found that students who participate in collaborative learning and activities outside the classroom are more successful in college and after they graduate. Getting involved in student engineering organizations offers students the opportunity to build a network of career contacts and lifelong friends, develop life skills, gain on-the-job experience, as well as acquiring leadership and teamwork skills. Some of the main advantages of student engineer organizations are the close-knit communities. Student members discover a support network of faculty and administrators who encourage creative thinking and taking risks that lead to personal and professional growth. |
