STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Bagley College recognized more than 30 students at its first Student Publications Awards Ceremony and Reception, Wednesday, Jan. 29.

This event is part of a new student initiative, one of several recently established by Dean Achille Messac to encourage student research and reward their accomplishments.

“It is truly exciting to see our graduate and undergraduate students engage in faculty-led research that results in peer-reviewed publications,” Messac said.

To qualify for a publication award, an undergraduate student must have co-authored at least one published, peer-reviewed conference paper and a graduate student must have co-authored a peer-reviewed journal article. Each student author received a cash award and a certificate of achievement.

In addition, one graduate and one undergraduate student were recognized as Distinguished Scholars for having the best quality or highest number of articles published. Mahmood Mamivand, a doctoral student in mechanical engineering, and Matthew Blair, a senior in civil engineering, were the recipients of these awards.
