Bagley faculty member, students honored by President’s Commission on the Status of Women

April 21, 2016

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The national President’s Commission on the Status of Women recognized both Bagley students and a faculty member at this year’s awards reception.

Honorees were formally recognized at MSU’s 2016 President’s Commission on the Status of Women Awards Reception on April 6 in Griffis Hall.

Assistant clinical professor Sarah Lee, who also serves as the director of undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Engineering, is this year’s recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Faculty Woman.

Lee’s recognition is the result of her combined work in developing outreach programs to help attract more young women into computing majors and retention efforts designed to build a stronger community within the Bagley College of Engineering.

“I am humbled that my work to recruit and retain women in the computing pipeline is being recognized,” Lee said. “I am fortunate to work with many outstanding women at MSU as collaborators on outreach programs and related research projects. Seeing the impact that these efforts have on young women and watching them succeed in computing education and successfully transition to careers or graduate school is truly rewarding.”

Two Bagley College students, Vineetha Menon and Kennedy Brown, were also recipients of PCSW awards.

Menon, an ECE graduate student from Bangalore, India, received the Outstanding Graduate Woman Award, while Brown, an ISE student from Columbus, Mississippi, received the Outstanding Leadership Award.

The national society encourages and inspires women to become leaders, problem solvers and innovators. Annually, PCSW honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improve the status of women. Categories for Outstanding Women awards include academic faculty, staff, graduate student and undergraduate student awards.
