BCoE professor selected for statewide civil engineering honor

howardiSTARKVILLE, Miss. – A Mississippi State University professor has been named Engineer of the Year by a national organization’s Mississippi chapter.

Bagley College of Engineering’s Isaac Howard was awarded the statewide honor by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at the group’s recent annual meeting.

The annual award is presented to an ASCE member with outstanding contributions in the field of civil engineering, particularly regarding professional advancement and community service.

“Dr. Howard has provided strong leadership in the field of construction materials and is especially well regarded for preparing students for future careers in the industry,” said Jason Keith, Dean of the Bagley College of Engineering. “We are proud that he has been selected for this honor.”

Howard is an associate professor in Bagley’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he holds the Materials and Construction Industries Chair. He also serves as the director of the Construction Materials Research Center at Mississippi State, which primarily focuses on materials studies of highways and transportations, including asphalt and cement.
