Chemical Engineering Senior Accepted to UC-Berkeley

March 28, 2007

The Bagley College of Engineering would like to congratulate chemical engineering senior, Jared Fisher, on being accepted to the top chemical engineering Master’s programs in the nation. Fisher received acceptance to Michigan, Georgia Tech, University of California-Berkeley and Northwestern.

Fisher has chosen to attend at the University of California-Berkeley beginning in fall 2007. Through the University of California-Berkeley, he was awarded a three-year National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (GERT), which is valued at $30,000 annually. He also received a two-year Chancellor’s Fellowship for Graduate Study, which includes a stipend of $25,000 annually. Competition for this award was intense as the top students in all departments applied and competed for this fellowship award. In addition, Fisher is receiving additional funding directly from the University of California-Berkeley universe community Chemical Engineering Department in the amount of $4,500.

Fisher was also offered fellowships at each of the other schools from which he was accepted. “My proudest accomplishment is being accepted to several top-rated schools, particularly UC-Berkeley, and being offered competitive fellowships at all of them. It’s the ultimate reward for my years of hard work and determination,” said Fisher.

Fisher is an active student on campus. His memberships include Engineering Ambassadors, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Omega Chi Epsilon, and Tau Beta Pi. He also served on the Engineering Student Council from 2004-2006, and from 2002-2004, as well as served as the newsletter editor for Increasing Minority Access to Graduate Education (IMAGE). On top of all this he is also an undergraduate research assistant in the Renewable Fuels and Chemicals Laboratory in the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. One if his highest accomplishments was being named an MSU Distinguished Scholar. To receive this honor, a student must have a minimum ACT composite score of 29, exceptional academic credentials upon enrollment at MSU.

Fisher’s constant academic success and drive for excellence have been exceedingly rewarded with much deserved credit.
