MSU chemical engineering professor honored as AIChE fellow

April 5, 2017

A member of the Bagley College of Engineering faculty has been selected as a 2017 fellow of a global chemical engineering organization.

Associate professor Priscilla Hill has earned the highest level of membership from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), joining the ranks of only two percent of its current members.

Before being elected as an AIChE fellow, candidates must possess a record of excellence in their chemical engineering practice lasting 25 years, hold senior member status with AIChE and be at least a 10-year member of the organization. Fellow honorees for 2017 will be recognized during the AIChE annual meeting in October.

“Being elected to fellow indicates that a person has significant professional contributions and that they have served the profession well,” Hill said. “I am honored to have colleagues that believe I have enough significant professional contributions and service to be elected as an AIChE Fellow.”

Hill’s recognition stems from accomplishments in teaching, service and research. Funded by the National Science Foundation, Hill’s research in particle technology primarily focuses on mathematical models for particle breakage and application in chemical processing industries.

Hill holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemical engineering from Clemson University, as well as a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.

Hill came to Mississippi State in 2001. Before joining Bagley College’s Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, she spent several years working in Japan as a senior consultant for Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, in addition to time as a senior engineer with Idaho National Engineering Laboratory and as a professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

With career experience in both industry and higher education, Hill has been an asset to the international organization, serving on AIChE’s Board of Directors for the separations division and as the area programming chair for crystallization and evaporation. She has also served as a chair or co-chair for more than 25 sessions of AIChE Annual Meetings.

Before being named an AIChE fellow, Hill was inducted into Bagley College of Engineering’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2015. She also received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation in 2005.

As the world’s leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, the AIChE promotes professional growth and excellence in chemical engineering education across the globe.
