Toghiani recieves BCoE career award

May 4, 2013

A chemical engineering associate professor earned recognition for a career of exemplary academic service.

Rebecca Toghiani received this year’s Bagley College of Engineering Faculty Career Award at the Faculty Excellence Dinner, April 23.

The career award is presented each year to a faculty member, with more than 15 years experience at Mississippi State, who has excelled in teaching, research and service to the college.

Toghiani became part of the Mississippi State family in 1989. Since that time she has taught a majority of the courses offered in the chemical engineering program and served as a mentor to her students. Chemical engineering undergraduates have twice selected her as Professor of the Year.

A Grisham Master Teacher, Toghiani was inducted into the BCoE Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2007. In 2001 she was named a Hearin Professor of Engineering and earned the Outstanding Faculty Woman Award from the President’s Commission on the Status of Women at MSU. She has also served on numerous committees at Mississippi State including the faculty senate, administrative search committees and the women in engineering steering committee.

An active researcher with many publications to her name, Toghiani’s work explores a wide range of chemical engineering subjects including thermodynamics of mixtures, solubilities in inorganic systems, computational chemistry, and process design intensification. She was presented the 2009 Thomas C. Evans Instructional Paper Award from the Southeastern Section of the American Society of Engineering Education, which have previously awarded her the Outstanding Teaching Award.

Toghiani received bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia. While working on her doctorate, she served as an instructor in the engineering department.
