Special Podcast Release    "Science Guy" visits MSU
Thanks to his energetic performances on television, Bill Nye is known to most as the “Science Guy,” but during a recent visit to MSU he reveled his other passions. Nye is a strong supporter of science education because he knows the future of our world will soon be in the hands of today’s children. While visiting campus, he also took the time to discuss hybrid vehicles with members of the BCoE’s national champion Challenge X team. Nye was given the opportunity to drive the vehicle and inspect the students’ craftsmanship while examining the inner-workings of the car.

Paganini on board with the BCoE

Mississippi State’s Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE) introduces a new member to the dean’s advisory council this month. Marc Paganini joins the dean’s advisory council as the newest and one of only a few select non-alumnus member.

“In the past, the DAC has been comprised of BCoE alumni. Mr. Paganini, while not an alumnus, is the chief executive of a regional manufacturer and will bring excellent additional perspective to the Council,” stated Interim Dean, Glenn Steele.

Mr. Paganini has a long and distinguished career in the aerospace industry and in 2003, he assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of American Eurocopter, which is based in Grand Prairie, Texas, with a large manufacturing facility in Columbus, Mississippi. Under his guidance, American Eurocopter has become the number one helicopter manufacturer in the United States and has experienced record revenues.

“I am honored to join the dean’s advisory council,” said Paganini. “I look forward to working with the council to promote the growth of Mississippi State’s Bagley College of Engineering and to ensure the strength of the manufacturing industry in Mississippi.

Paganini's new role with the BCoE allows him to play a significant part in helping the college continue its national prominence as the premier engineering college in Mississippi. Advisory council members provide advice and feedback to the dean on the vision and long-term planning of the college. They also assist the BCoE in acquiring resources from private, corporate, state, and federal levels. Paganini will also have the opportunity to interact with not only the senior leadership team in the college, but also the students, faculty and other scholarly activities at the university.

The BCoE is pleased to have Paganini as part of the dean’s advisory council, and delighted that he is willing to serve as an advocate for the BCoE to the senior university administration, the state of Mississippi, and on a national level.

Mississippi State's engineering program was established in 1902 and the first dean’s advisory council was created in 1998. Currently with 28 members, the council boasts the support of individuals such as Jim Bagley, executive chairman of Lam Research’s board of directors; Earnie Deavenport, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Eastman Chemical Company; and Bobby Shackouls, retired chairman, president and chief executive officer of Burlington Resources Inc.
