Seasons Greetings!

The last couple weeks of the semester were busy with final exams, calculating grade-point averages, celebrating the holiday season with our colleagues, students, alumni, and friends, as well as awarding 159 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees at our December commencement. Congratulations to all our graduates. I’m sure this monumental life accomplishment will make this holiday a cherished one for both you and your family.

We hope you have a safe and happy holiday season.

Sincerely;

Glenn Steele, Ph.D., P.E.
Interim Dean
James Worth Bagley College of Engineering

From the Alps to Appalachia – French students experience new culture at Mississippi State

With global travel and communication growing easier all the time, it becomes imperative that people take the time to understand other cultures. Many universities around the globe have developed study abroad programs to help students gain the insights they need to develop into well-rounded professionals. This semester the Bagley College of Engineering has hosted four French engineering students from the Institut National des Sciences Apliquées and Grenoble Institute of Technology as part of a semester-long study abroad program. The long arm of the law has extended its reach with help from Bagley College of Engineering students and their knowledge of law and order.

The computer science in engineering computer forensics class recently received first-hand experience in crime scene investigation during mock crime scene take-downs and trials. The semester-long project allowed students to work with crime scenes, evidence and participate in trials involving the common cyber-crimes of identity-theft, embezzlement and child pornography. Although staff members and their classmates simulated the “crimes” and “evidence”, the forensics class allowed students to experience a different side of computer engineering. Capitalizing on opportunities

A degree in engineering offers many opportunities to young graduates. From industry to education to business or politics, the skills acquired through years of study in the BCoE can be applied to most fields. Following commencement this December, Elliott Flaggs, an industrial engineering graduate, plans to capitalize on these vast opportunities through an internship on Capitol Hill.
