Students resolute in having a successful 2008

For better or worse, January marks a time of reflection, refreshment and, of course, resolutions. Students, especially, become reawakened during this month because in addition to kicking off a new year, it also sees the start of a new semester. While the new year doesn’t necessarily wipe the slate clean for students, it does offer an opportunity for renewed focus, added ambition and New Year’s resolutions.

Many undergrads start the new year with one ultimate goal, “I just want to graduate,” explained Scott Tran, a senior in biological engineering. Others, like senior mechanical engineering major Jon Hall, take a more philosophical approach, “I find if I don’t make resolutions I don’t have the stress of trying to keep them.” Whatever the rationale, this time of year offers students a chance for personal growth as they inch their way closer to a degree.

Below undergraduates from around the college share their New Year’s resolutions for 2008.

Jerrel Moore – Senior ISE
“Become more organized and structured in my reading and studying”

Zack Lott – Junior CEE
“Study harder. Go to sleep earlier and eat healthier.”

Chris Boler- Junior CSE
“Make it to class”

Allison Robinson – Senior ISE
“Become more organized and get involved in more research projects.”

Howard Brinkman – Senior ME
“Just do better and put more time in.”

Jeremy Davis – Senior CSE
“Don’t waste time while studying, so I can finish quicker and actually go to the gym.”

Jonathan Bennett – Junior ASE
“Become more in-depth with theory instead of practical applications. Learn more of why as opposed to how.”

Michael Stewart – Senior CSE
“Don’t let things stress me out as bad”

Joe Johnson –Sophomore ECE
“Make better grades and work harder, so I can get my GPA up.”

Nick Mody – Senior CEE
“Eat better and work-out regularly. Lessen the amount of time spent procrastinating.”

David Callahan – Senior ISE
“Earn better grades in important classes. I’m graduating in May, so I also want to work on interview techniques and finding a job.”

Philip Cranford – Junior ME
“Start working out.”

John Clemmer – Senior ABE
“Finish senior design with a passing grade.”

Jeffrey Slater – Junior ChE
“Finish homework between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., more like a real job.”
