Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is at the heart of today's high-tech, highly skilled global economy. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM education curricular programs used in middle and high schools throughout the United States.
Mississippi State University is proud to serve as the Project Lead The Way (PLTW)'s engineering affiliate university for the state of Mississippi. As the affiliate university, MSU facilitates the delivery of the PLTW Pathway To Engineering (PTE) and Gateway To Technology (GTT) programs by providing professional development through its core training and counselor conferences, as well as college-level recognition, program initiatives, and statewide/regional support and communication.
For America to remain economically competitive, our next generation of leaders - today's students - must develop the critical-reasoning and problem-solving skills that will make them the most productive in the world. The PLTW curriculum is founded in the fundamental problem-solving and critical-thinking skills taught in traditional career and technical education (CTE), but at the same time, integrates national academic and technical learning standards and STEM principles. This integration creates what U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan calls one of the "great models of the new CTE that is succeeding all across the country." PLTW was recently cited by the Harvard Graduate School of Education as a "model for 21st century career and technical education."
More than 4,200 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have offered PLTW courses to their students. In addition, PLTW has trained more than 10,500 teachers to instruct its engaging, rigorous STEM education curriculum.
