Outreach activities are designed to offer students and teachers the opportunity to explore and learn about the many different facets within the engineering field. The K-12 Outreach offers summer program camps that engage students with interests in math, science and computers in hands-on engineering projects. The interactive projects combine applications of electrical and computer science, chemistry and biological sciences, as well as aeronautic, geographical, mechanical, environmental, and civil sciences. Through these project activities, students discover how math and science are applied in the real-world. Often, the experience inspires students to pursue a career in engineering.

The BCoE has several programs in place to set the undergraduate and graduate students up for success while attending and after college. Students develop leadership skills and enhance their confidence through the Co-op, Certificate and Diversity programs. These programs are important supplemental educational tools that offer a safe environment where students experiment with handling a variety of work and life scenarios that they will encounter again on-the-job or as they lead a professional organization.

The Engineering Engagement and Outreach Service (EEOS) has been created to work with business, industry, government, and community partners in the state of Mississippi to improve their responsiveness, competitiveness, and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology, and skills that reside within the college’s knowledge base.

The EEOS is an affiliation of BCoE activities with a focus on serving Mississippi businesses, industry, government (state and local), and communities. The EEOS is founded around two organizations that have long contributed to the economic benefit of the state – the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems – Extension (CAVS-E).

Adding to these two flagship organizations are the contributions of the college’s faculty through a myriad of other service oriented activities, such as the Industrial Assessment Center in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Southeast Regional Forensics Training Center in Computer Science and Engineering. Additionally, the college’s distance education program, offering graduate degrees and certificates, has become affiliated with EEOS to serve the professional development needs of the state’s engineering workforce.

By engaging with Mississippi business, industry, and government, the Bagley College of Engineering looks toward becoming a major partner in growing the economy of the state.
