Space Cowboys

As seen pre-game on the field and Jumbotron.

The MSU Space Cowboys is Mississippi State University’s nationally competitive rocketry team open to all students at MSU. Every year, the structures, payload, and simulations sub-teams work together to design, build, and launch a rocket at competitions, including the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), the world’s largest intercollegiate rocket engineering conference and competition.

Over the summer, this elite student rocketry team flew to a first-place victory in the 30K foot COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) solid-motor category at the IREC in Midland, TX — their second championship in the last decade!

EcoCAR

As seen on the Jumbotron.

At this year’s EcoCAR EV Challenge, MSU's EcoCAR team brought home seven first-place awards and earned a spot in the national top 10!

The EcoCAR team is a student-led organization that develops future leaders in engineering and business — who can design, build and market fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles.

The current competition, the EcoCAR EV Challenge, launched in 2022 and tasks teams with reengineering a Cadillac LYRIQ to enhance energy efficiency, incorporate advanced driver-assistance systems, and embed equity-centered design solutions.

Now in its final year, the Mississippi State team continues to build on its strong legacy in EcoCAR competitions by pushing the boundaries of innovation, collaboration, and real-world engineering. Our goal is not only to deliver a high-performing vehicle, but also to set the stage for future student success in both the classroom and the automotive industry.
