STARKVILLE, Miss. – An international energy company’s financial commitment will support James Worth Bagley College of Engineering educational initiatives for the next three years.

Chevron recently announced a $1,080,000 contribution to Mississippi State University through its University Partnership Program. This adds to the more than $2.5 million the company has invested in the college in the past five years.

“We are very thankful to Chevron for their support of the Bagley College of Engineering,” interim dean Jason Keith said. “We have a large number of students working at Chevron both through our world-class co-op program and in full-time employment. I am excited for the opportunities this gift will create for our students.”

These funds will strengthen several programs in the BCoE. Each year $50,000 will go toward academic and study abroad scholarships, as well as student competition teams. The Chevron Engineering Transfer Program, which supports minority transfer students, will also receive $50,000 each year.

Student organizations that focus on professional development will receive a $10,000 yearly donation, and $150,000 will support the development of the Chevron Thermal-Fluids Laboratory, a new engineering teaching lab for the mechanical engineering department.

Chevron credits its partnership with Mississippi State for the successful recruitment and development of students from the Bagley College of Engineering. The company boasts more than 200 Mississippi State graduates among its employees, making it one of the leading employers of Bulldog engineering alumni.

“Chevron is proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Mississippi State University,” said Mike Illanne, vice president of Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit and MSU class of 1980. “Bulldog students have the reputation for being able to hit the ground running when they join our workforce. Mississippi State alumni serve in numerous leadership positions throughout our company and play key roles in helping Chevron meet global energy needs.”

Bruce Chinn, general manager of Chevron’s Pascagoula Refinery, added, “We’re dedicated to supporting the social and economic vitality of the areas in which we live and work. This donation will continue to help prepare Mississippi State University students for careers in the energy industry and is part of Chevron’s on-going commitment in Mississippi.”

Chevron is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies and is involved in nearly every facet of the energy industry. Active in more than 180 countries, the company aims to develop affordable, reliable energy to meet the world’s needs.
