STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State University chapter of an electric and computer engineering honor society has garnered national recognition for its accomplishments.

The Gamma Omega chapter of Eta Kappa Nu received the Outstanding Chapter Award from the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers for its excellence during 2013-2014 academic year. Presented annually, these awards recognize achievement as noted in meticulously prepared reports. The winners were announced at the IEEE Eta Kappa Nu Student Leadership Conference this spring.

Only 23 of 245 national chapters received outstanding distinction this year. Jane Moorhead, adviser of the Gamma Omega chapter, said receiving this award showcases the quality of a Mississippi State education.

“This award shows that, with our capabilities and caliber of student, we are a top tier school,” Moorhead said.

Eta Kappa Nu at Mississippi State offers a variety of ways for students to become involved. In addition to attending technical meetings, members are able to serve the Bagley College by volunteering at events like the Science Olympiad, Maker Faire and E-Week. Members can also take part in social events including trips to nearby engineering plants such as Dow Chemical and Nissan.
