Starkville, Miss. – A delegation from the Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE) traded the Deep South for the Far East to represent the university at an international conference.

The 2008 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE) took place in Chongqing, China due to the combined efforts of Mississippi State University and Chongqing University. It drew over 200 participants from 16 countries including BCoE Professor Stainslaw Grzybowski and Dean Sarah Rajala serving as ICHVE 2008 co-chair and an executive committee member respectively.

Other representatives from MSU included Dr. Nicolas Younan, interim electrical engineering department head, and doctoral candidates Clayborn Taylor Jr. and Thongchai Disyadej. Together the group presented four papers outlining research being conducted at MSU’s High Voltage Laboratory. Due to the positive response to the presentations, lab director Grzybowski believes the exposure will lead to future collaborations with other institutions.

Based on a recommendation by the ICHVE executive committee, plans are underway to hold the next conference in the United States, with Mississippi State serving as the lead organizing body. Grzybowski will serve as chair for the conference which is scheduled for 2010.
