STARKVILLE, Miss. –In a recent ceremony, the Public Relations Association of Mississippi presented its top honors to advertising and public relation agencies across the state, including the Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE).
The college’s office of publications and communications was awarded two PRisms and two Awards of Excellence in the annual state-wide competition.
Awarded only to the top entry in each category, PRisms were earned by the college’s recently redesigned Web site, www.bagley.msstate.edu, and the biannual magazine Momentum. This was the college’s second consecutive PRism win in the external magazine category.
Awards of Excellence denote exceptional use of the research, planning, implementation, evaluation, and creative principles of public relations. Both the annual report, Dimensions, and the graduate student recruiting brochure earned this recognition.
The BCoE publications and communications office is part of the college’s Wayne and Shirley Bennett enhancement wing. It is staffed by Heather Rowe, publication coordinator and graphic designer; Diane Godwin, writer; and Susan Lassetter, communication specialist.
“The college is proud of Heather, Diane and Susan for all they have accomplished and for the recognition they have brought to the college,” explained Dean Sarah Rajala. “The recognition they have achieved is not only through these awards but also the outstanding communication tools they have provided to further help with recruitment, changing perceptions about the state, and sharing all that is happening within the BCoE.”
The PRism competition and awards ceremony began in 2003 as a way to recognize and honor outstanding work by Mississippi professionals in the field of public relations. The competition is judged by a panel from outside of Mississippi and annually draws hundreds of entries from across the state. This year’s competition was open to any public relations plan or tool developed or produced in the 2008 calendar year.
