STARKVILLE, Miss.—An international, membership-led organization, the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), elected Dr. Burak Eksioglu to its board of directors for the Operations Research Division. According to the IIE Web site, the organization is dedicated solely to supporting the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.
Eksioglu, an assistant industrial and systems engineering (ISE) professor, will serve a two-year term with colleagues from Rutgers and Lehigh Universities, the University of Texas at Austin, the Walt Disney Company, and the Harris Corporation.
“The Bagley College of Engineering’s (BCoE) innovative future relies on the progressive minds of its young faculty members,” offered Sarah Rajala, dean of the BCoE. “We are proud of Dr. Eksioglu’s accomplishments and his commitment to serve in moving the ISE profession forward to the next level of excellence.”
Eksioglu joined the BCoE ISE team six years ago. Since that time he has earned the 2008 IIE Award of Excellence in the Teaching of Operations Research and the BCoE ISE Department Outstanding Research Paper Award on several occasions. He also serves as the co-director of the National Center for Intermodal Transportation, which represents one interest of his many research focus areas that include operations research, supply chain optimization, disaster management, and heuristics optimization.
Eksioglu received his doctorate in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Florida; a Master of Science in engineering business management from the University of Warwick (Coventry, UK); and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey). Prior to joining Mississippi State, Dr. Eksioglu taught at Cleveland State University and worked with MARSA KJS as an organization development specialist.
The IIE is a volunteer-driven association that relies on its board of trustees and board of directors—elected from and by the membership—to provide leadership and overall direction to all IIE activities and operations. The Operational Research Division of the IIE, in which Eksioglu will serve, works to support members by fostering networks, offering programs, and maintaining resources that represent core competencies or areas of specialized practice.
