Two BCoE employees among President’s Commission honorees

April 14, 2010

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The President’s Commission on the Status of Women recognized two Bagley College of Engineering employees among its 32nd annual Outstanding Women Award winners.

Ardra Morgan was named Outstanding Secretarial/Clerical Woman and Alma Boyd took Outstanding Service/Maintenance Woman honors.

A total of nine women from across the university were recognized as part of this year’s awards. The commission collected campus-wide nominations for each of the award categories. Each winner was selected based on her contributions to the university and the Starkville community.

Morgan, an administrative assistant for the department of electrical and computer engineering, is a member of several professional organizations including the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Phi Theta Kappa, and the industry advisory board at East Mississippi Community College. She helped plan MSU’s 2009 Excellence in Administrative Support Conference and currently serves on the 2010 conference planning committee. She is also active in community animal rights groups, the Starkville and MSU Symphony Chorus, and the First Presbyterian Church Choir.

As part of MSU Facilities Management, Boyd currently works in Butler Hall, which houses the department of computer science and engineering. She has been with the university since 1995 and is recognized by the commission for performing “far above expectations.” She is active as a volunteer, providing care for families in the Starkville community, and serving her church, Peter’s Rock Temple, as a member of the custodial service committee.

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women was created in 1977 to provide a voice for issues facing women on campus.
