Physics and Astronomy, Spring 2027

Research/Academic Interest: Nuclear Physics, especially if it involves experimental setups. We’re looking at detector and accelerator physics, such as in JLab, Virginia, or the more famous CERN.

Career Interest: Work as an experimentalist in large accelerator systems (DESY, LHC, Jlab, etc.).

Marcela Campassi

Marcela Campassi

Electrical Engineering, Spring 2027

Research/Academic Interest: I started out more interested in microelectronics, but more recently, I’ve gotten more into the radar and sensor processing side of electronics.

Career Interest: I’m aiming for a hardware-focused role in electrical engineering. Ideally embedded systems or mixed-signal hardware that touch sensors and radar. I enjoy taking a design from concept to a tested prototype, so roles in microelectronics/MEMS, sensor front-end-ends, or radar signal-chain hardware are the best fit. Long-term, I want to keep one foot in research while building products that make it out of the lab.

Derrick Conliff

Derrick Conliff

Electrical Engineering, Spring 2026

Research/Academic Interest: I enjoy power electronics and microelectronics.

Career Interest: I would ultimately like to work for a major healthcare company as a research engineer developing advanced medical devices. I will probably get some field experience first and then continue working towards this goal. While I do plan to get my Masters, I am unsure if I will pursue a Ph.D.

Computer Science, Spring 2026

Research/Academic Interest: My areas of interest are algorithmic design, AI, and cybersecurity.

Career Interest: I would love to go into academia and work in the field of computer science. However, I would also be fine with working in software development.

Brian Fitzpatrick

Brian Fitzpatrick

Mechanical Engineering, Summer 2026

Research/Academic Interest: I am primarily interested in robotics, automation, and AI and machine learning applications for those fields.

Career Interest: I would like to be a part of a team developing humanoid/bipedal robots with AI integration. I don’t intend to go on the management track once in industry; I would like to become a technical expert in my field.

Computer Science, Fall 2025

Research/Academic Interest: Data Science, Cyber Security, and AI in Cybersecurity.

Career Interest: I am interested in working within the informatics field, focusing on data analytics and cybersecurity. I also aspire to work for the U.S. Space Force under the Cyber Intelligence and Analysis department. My goal is to become the “wild card” in my career—someone who is versatile, knowledgeable, and capable across multiple areas of technology. Realistically, I plan to begin as a Systems Administrator while earning certifications such as CompTIA Security+ (701), Data Science, Network+, CySA+, and Linux. Long term, I would like to work in healthcare as a health informatics specialist or biostatistician, or possibly as a penetration tester focused on strengthening system security.
