STARKVILLE, Miss. – A statewide NASA-supported group has given Bagley College students scholarships and the opportunity to bolster K-12 education in Mississippi.
The Mississippi Space Grant Consortium awarded six doctoral students $17,000 each for the 2014-15 academic year. In addition to tuition support, the scholarships give each student the opportunity to develop and deliver educational activities for elementary, middle and high school students across the Magnolia State.
The 2014-15 scholarship recipients from Mississippi State include (by hometown):
COLUMBUS, Miss. –Thomas McIntyre, mechanical engineering
MERIDIAN, Miss. – Kenneth “Kenny” Mosser II, computer science, and Sean Offenberger, aerospace engineering
PETAL, Miss. – Brooke Goree, aerospace engineering
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Ian Dettwiller, aerospace engineering, and Emily Ledbury, mechanical engineering
The Mississippi Space Grant Consortium was established in 1991 to enhance and support aerospace science and technology activities in Mississippi, and produce a strong science, mathematics and technology base at the precollege, undergraduate and graduate levels.
The scholarships are designed to help encourage talented students to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. For more information about the organization, visit ms.spacegrant.org.
