Starkville, Miss. – Already recognized as one of 2008’s most outstanding seniors in the Bagley College of Engineering, Andy Lindeman continues to have a banner year. He was recently selected as the newest recipient of the Harry Charles F. Simrall Award for Engineering Excellence.
Presented annually by the Mississippi State Association of Retired Faculty (ARF), the award recognizes excellence in academics, professional leadership and community service. In addition to a monetary award, the distinction ensures that Lindeman will become a part of BCoE history as his name joins those of previous honorees on a plaque displayed in the college.
Lindeman, came to Mississippi State in 2005 having already gained research experience at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. As an incoming freshman, he was awarded a Distinguished Scholar Scholarship. He currently works with faculty in the computer science department on the application of visualization techniques to bioinformatics data and has presented his work at the national IEEE Information and Visualization Conference.
His involvement on campus includes having served as chair for the University Honors Council and Distinguished Scholars Board. Lindeman has twice been named an Outstanding Honors Student and in 2007 received the Spirit of State Award. He regularly works with the Humane Society, Adopt-a-Family Christmas Program and recycling projects. He has also helped with Hurricane Katrina recovery and Habitat for Humanity.
The Harry Charles F. Simrall Award was established in 1999 in recognition of its namesake’s devotion to the university. Simrall served as dean of the BCoE and was a charter member of the ARF during his 44 years with the university.
