STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Bagley College of Engineering maintained its spot among the nation’s top research institutions in a recent research expenditures report from the National Science Foundation.
The release of the NSF Higher Education Research and Development Survey for Fiscal Year 2014 landed Bagley College in the survey’s top 75 engineering institutions. With engineering expenditures totaling $40.7 million, Bagley College ranked 74th on a national scale.
Six of Bagley College’s eight engineering disciplines also earned spots among the top 100, with two listed in the top 50. Mechanical engineering was included in the top 10%, clinching No. 27 with $11.57 million in research expenditures. Aeronautical and aeronautical engineering ranked No. 36 with $3.73 million.
Other disciplines included No. 61 electrical engineering with $9 million, No. 71 computer science and engineering with $5.7 million, No. 81 civil engineering with $4.17 million and No. 82 chemical engineering with $2.92 million.
According to the NSF, the report serves as the primary source of information regarding research and development expenditures at U.S. colleges and universities, both public and private.
Mississippi State University was also included among the report’s top 100 research institutions, ranking 98th nationwide. Mississippi State University remains the Magnolia State’s leading research university, totaling $209.7 million in research and development expenditures. The NSF ranking added to Mississippi State’s research recognition, which includes the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching designation of “Very High Research Activity University.” Mississippi State is the state’s only university with the distinction.
