Bagley students continue winning streak at ITE competition

April 13, 2021

A team of Mississippi State engineering students captured first place at this year’s Institute of Traffic Engineers Deep South Traffic Bowl regional competition.

International Collegiate Traffic Bowl LogoIt marked the 11th time in 12 years that Bagley College of Engineering students have won the competition.

Civil engineering majors Justice Moran, Caleb Hill and Will Valentine made up this year’s Traffic Bowl team. All are seniors in the Richard A. Rula School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Mississippi State.

“The William H. Temple Scholarship Challenge known as Traffic Bowl Competition is held every year since 2009 and features teams comprised of three students testing their knowledge of transport engineering, transport planning, and ITE topics,” said Alireza Ermagun, the faculty advisor for the ITE student chapter.

This year’s Mississippi State team competed against students from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana State University, Jackson State University and the University of Mississippi.

The Deep South Section, officially referred to as District Five, is an affiliate of the Southern District ITE (SDITE) and consists of the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Bagley students will now advance to the ITE Southern District competition. Last year, Mississippi State’s Traffic Bowl team tied for second place with Clemson University.

“Our 2021 team worked hard to bring home this victory and are getting ready for the Southern District Competition happening on April 15th,” Ermagun said. “Congratulations to our ITE Student Chapter and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department for this achievement. We wish them the best of luck in the upcoming championship.”
