STARKVILLE, Miss. – Multiple Bagley College students were recently recognized by a southern transportation engineering society.
Annually, the Deep South Institute of Transportation Engineers (DSITE) recognizes students who excel academically and actively apply themselves in the industry of transportation engineering.
Three BCoE students, all members of the civil and environmental engineering department, received a 2016 Deep South Institute of Transportation Scholarship.
Dennis Truax, the civil and environmental engineering department head and James T. White endowed chair, expressed his excitement for the recipients of the award.
“I’m very proud of how hard these students worked for this scholarship,” said Truax. “They dedicate themselves to their work and strive to create a successful future for themselves.”
Truax also stated that the students’ commitment to the industry of transportation engineering and involvement in both school and statewide organizations helped them stand out from other students in the field.
Bagley College’s DSITE scholarship recipients are (by hometown):
SALTILLO, Miss. – Tyler Fields, a junior civil engineering major
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior Jing Liao, a civil and environmental engineering major
TUPELO, Miss. – Heather Hart, a senior civil engineering major
As a southern branch of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, DSITE represents transportation engineers within Mississippi and Louisiana, including five collegiate chapters. The society meets four times each year with meeting sites alternating between the two states, allowing active students to gain both technical skills and social networking opportunities.
