Cleveland Awarded Tau Beta Pi Foglesong Scholarship

William P. Cleveland has been awarded the Foglesong Scholarship from Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. Cleveland, a resident of Gulfport, MS, is the son of Peter and Faye Carole Cleveland. Cleveland will receive a $2,000 award which he is applying towards a summer research program in Brussels, Belgium at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics. The Foglesong Scholarship is named for 2007 Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Robert H. Foglesong, West Virginia Alpha 1968. Tau Beta Pi scholarships are awarded to junior members on a competitive basis of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.

An honors student double majoring in aerospace engineering and computer engineering at Mississippi State University, William Cleveland is the president of the Mississippi Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi and student vice‐president of Phi Kappa Phi honor society. Cleveland is also a member of Sigma Gamma Tau, aerospace engineering honor society, Eta Kappa Nu, electrical engineering honors society, AIAA, and IEEE. He participates on the MSU Unmanned Aerial Systems Team Xipiter. Cleveland also performs improvisational comedy with the Lab Rats Comedy troupe. He is a 2005 graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science.

Tau Beta Pi is the world’s largest engineering society. Membership represents the highest honor to be obtained by an engineering student and is awarded on the basis of high scholarship and exemplary character.
