Starkville, Miss. — A mechanical engineering professor has been named to the state boiler and pressure vessel safety committee.
The state Senate confirmed Steve Daniewicz’s appointment during the 2011 legislative session. He will serve until June 2015.
The seven-member committee consists of engineers, educators, and the owners, users and manufacturers of boilers and pressure vessels. Daniewicz replaces C.T. Carley, a retired Mississippi State University mechanical engineering department head, on the committee.
Daniewicz joined Mississippi State’s Bagley College of Engineering in 1994 and is currently serving as interim mechanical engineering department head. He holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Ohio State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.
His research specializes in fatigue and fracture mechanics including fatigue resistance of welded structures.
As a member of the committee, Daniewicz will help establish the rules and regulations to which boilers and pressure vessels in the state of Mississippi must adhere, select qualified inspectors, and recommend machine inspections as necessary to ensure safety.
