STARKVILLE, Miss—“ICHVE,” the phonetic spelling sounds a lot like the pronunciation of “achieve.” It’s the acronym for the 2008 International High Voltage Engineering and Application Conference. Scientists, researchers and professors from around the world will be sharing their achievements and accomplishments at the event in Chongqing, China. The ICHVE conference is a result of a partnership between Mississippi State University and Chongqing University, China. Both institutions are working with the State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Gold in securing sponsors, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, as well as planning activities including technical and historical tours.
China is currently developing nationwide electricity interconnection, strategy, planning, and constructing UHV Transmission lines. According to conference chair, Dr. Cai-Xin Sun, “China is becoming one of the leaders and pioneers in high voltage engineering.”
Mississippi State University’s High Voltage Laboratory is considered one of the largest academic electrical research facilities of its kind, and it is directed by conference co-chair, Dr. Stanislaw Grzybowski, who holds the Mississippi Power Endowed Professorship.
Grzybowski would like to extend an invitation and encourage colleagues from around the world to submit their professional papers. “Topics range from outdoor insulation to high voltage measurement to computational electromagnetic fields to high voltage apparatus,” said Grzybowski.
The deadline for 300-word abstracts is March 15, with the final paper acceptance date of September 15, 2008, two months prior to the November 9-12 conference dates.
