Internship Spotlight: Colin Francis

September 22, 2021

Colin Francis, a civil engineering major in MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering, earned some practical, hands-on experience by interning with Fenstermaker in his hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana this summer.

Founded in 1950, Fenstermaker is an engineering consulting firm that specializes in surveying and mapping, engineering and environmental consulting.

His experience with Fenstermaker led him to realize an interest in traffic engineering.

“College didn’t present traffic or transportation in a way that seemed like a pursuable route,” Francis said. “Structural and environmental were the major areas we focused on at Mississippi State. Being able to study under Diane (Hammonds) and Kimberly (McDaniel) while interning at Fenstermaker was extremely helpful and allowed me to discover an engineering discipline I would enjoy working in.”

In addition to his in-the-field learning experiences, Francis also gave a presentation on his summer internship before he wrapped up his internship.
