MSU Challenge X Team receives financial support from local industry

June 16, 2008

In an effort to support education and research, ServerCorr has partnered with MSU’s national champion Challenge X team. The steel company’s chief executive officer Jim Hrusovsky presented the hybrid car design team with a $5,000 donation to fund the research and purchase of new battery technology.

“SeverCorr supports the development of new technologies, such as hybrid vehicles, that utilize modern steels, value our position in the community, and support the educational institutions and their research,” said Dr. Roger Boggs, ServerCorr’s quality and technical service manager.

Matt Doude, MSU’s Challenge X team lead, received the check and noted how the support of local industry has helped make the team’s success possible.

“I am very appreciative of our local sponsors, such as SeverCorr,” Doude said. “Without support from local sponsors, the team would not have been able to obtain the technologies and technical support that we needed to win the competition.”

Challenge X is a national, invitational competition sponsored by General Motors. Mississippi State’s team has won consecutive national titles in the Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainable Mobility competition which asks student teams to re-engineer a crossover sport utility vehicle to minimize energy consumption, emissions, and greenhouse gases while exceeding the vehicle’s utility and performance. To further challenge its abilities, this year’s team will compete in the new arena of EcoCAR design, a new branch of the Challenge X program.
