Yu Luo, a Mississippi State associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is collaborating with two fellow professors to increase digitization in the construction management and safety industry.
Using a $299,877 National Science Foundation CyberTraining grant, Luo will collaborate with Rizwqan Farooqui and Samee Khan to develop cyberinfrastructure training models covering the Internet of Things, machine learning, deep learning, robotics and cybersecurity to bridge the digital adoption gap in this industry.
Farooqui, an MSU building construction science assistant professor, and Khan, former MSU ECE department head and current Kansas State University ECE department head and professor, serve as co-principal investigators.
Other goals for this project include annual in-person training sessions, interactive online learning materials under a Creative Commons license, and integration of cyberinfrastructure topics into construction management and safety curricula.
With an estimated end date of August 2026, this project aims to equip students to lead the next generation of construction professionals through innovation and digital transformation in an evolving industry.
