May 21, 2009

The Mississippi State University Student Association announced the organization’s first class of Student and Teacher Recognition Awards sponsored by its academic affairs committee. One professor from each college was nominated for the Most Influential Teacher Award, and one student from each college filled the nomination pool for the Most Outstanding Student during the 2008-09 academic year.

Dr. Donna Reese, the Bagley College of Engineering’s (BCoE) associate dean of academics, earned the Most Outstanding Teacher award. Reese received the accolade based on her unwavering commitment and support in helping every student reach his or her full potential.

“I am particularly proud to be selected for this award because it was done by students,” commented Reese. “One of the most rewarding parts of my job is working with students. It is gratifying to know that they are appreciative of these efforts.”

Earning this unique honor from the MSU Student Association adds to Reese’s list of accomplishments, including being named an MSU Grisham Master Teacher and receiving an Outstanding Faculty Adviser Award in 2004 from the National Academic Advising Association. An active member in numerous professional organizations, Reese currently serves as the membership committee chair for the Women in Engineering ProActive Network and is the program chair for the Women in Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education.

Andy Lindeman, a May graduate in computer science, was among the student nominees named from each college for the Most Outstanding Student Award. Ben Williams from the College of Business earned that honor.

The mission of the Student and Teacher Recognition program is to recognize exemplary students and faculty from each college at MSU. Under this program, students nominate faculty members whose influence both inside and outside of the classroom truly enhance their learning experience and impact their lives. In addition, faculty nominate students whose hard work and dedication helped make their teaching experience more enjoyable.
