STARKVILLE, Miss — Mississippi State’s Shackouls Honor College recognized students’ achievements at their 2007-08 awards ceremony. Students from the Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE) took many top honors including a clean-sweep of the outstanding student awards presented to Bulldogs from each undergraduate classification.
Outstanding student awards are based on a student’s grade point average (GPA), as well as the number of honors credit hours they earn during the academic year. Community and campus involvement is also considered when naming outstanding students.
This year, the outstanding freshman award went to computer engineering major Sean Owens, a native of Madisonville, La. Electrical engineering major Tim Pitts, of Lucedale, Miss. garnered sophomore honors, while industrial engineering major W. McNeil Williford took the junior title. Williford is a native of Madison, Miss.
Recognizing the honors program’s first director, the John L. Tilley Outstanding Senior award is the only named honor among the outstanding student awards. This year’s recipient was Thomas Donaldson, a computer engineering major from Vail, Ariz.
Andy Lindeman, a computer science major from Madison, Ala., also represented the BCoE well, by earning the honors college’s Jack H. White Outstanding Service award. This award recognizes a student’s involvement with the college while also considering their commitment to service, both in and outside the college, since their freshman year.
Always awarded to an upperclassman, the winning student must still be actively pursuing honors credits and maintain a quality GPA. This award is in tribute to Jack White, a former director of the honors program, who dutifully served the college for 20 years.
