Yanlin Guan, an international student, who will be graduating May 10 is being honored for both his academic and personal achievements while at Mississippi State.  He is one of three international students being honored as Outstanding International Graduating Students.

Guan, a doctoral degree student in electrical engineering, is native of the People’s Republic of China.

He is a senior member of the Chinese Student Organization, but most actively involved within the Falun Gong “truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance” Society.  He is a local coordinator for the Falun Gong cultivation society.

During his time at MSU, Guan has helped with the COVE in the Engineering Research Center. He has given his time to give demonstrations of the CAVE technology and various applications to several classes and groups on campus.

“In doing such he has represented the university well and provided outreach to many people – from the local community to international visitors, including several ambassadors and their staff,” Robert Moorhead, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, said.

Moorhead was one of the MSU faculty members who recommended Guan for this prestigious award.

Besides helping with the ERC, Guan has lectured junior level classes and submitted a journal article to a leading journal in Electrical Engineering. Guan is a three-year member of IEEE (International Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.) and is involved with National Engineers Week activities at MSU. He also participates yearly in the International Fiesta.

The award is given to international doctoral, master’s and undergraduate degree students who succeed not only in the classroom but in the community as well. It is based on current and graduating GPA, departmental activities, and campus/community involvement.
