Mississippi State announces 1999-2000 Henry Engineering Scholars

Five recently graduated high school seniors from Central and South Mississippi are the 1999-2000 Hunter Henry Endowed Scholars in Engineering at Mississippi State University.

Thomas E. Boone of Wiggins; James D. Findley of Ridgeland; John W. Kennedy of Jackson; Stephen F. Pisarich of Saucier; and John C. Reed of Raymond recently were selected to receive $2,500 annually for four years.

Henry Scholarships recognize entering mechanical and chemical engineering majors who have demonstrated outstanding academic and leadership qualities. Boone, Pisarich and Reed plan to seek degrees in chemical engineering; Findley and Kennedy, in mechanical engineering.

The scholarships were established in 1994 through a $1 million endowment by MSU alumnus Hunter W. Henry Jr. and his wife Lila, of Austin, Texas, and their son James E. “Jim” Henry of Denham Springs, La., also an MSU graduate. Hunter Henry is formerly of Canton.

Boone was the STAR Student at Forrest County Agricultural High School, where he was included on the honor roll for four years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boone.

Findley was a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and a four-year honor roll member at Madison Central High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Findley.

Kennedy is a graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus, where he was a member of the Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta honor society. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kennedy.

Pisarich was treasurer of the D’Iberville High School student council and a member of the mathematics and science and quiz bowl teams. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Pisarich.

Reed, a National Merit semifinalist who was home schooled, was selected for a summer-long internship with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Reed.
