Theta Tau looks into the future at upcoming Theta Talks event

March 24, 2017

Predicting the future isn’t easy but Mississippi State’s chapter of professional engineering fraternity Theta Tau isn’t shying away from giving it a go.

Using the theme “Tomorrow Builders: The Future Starts Now,” the group will hold it’s annual Theta Talk lecture series on Tuesday, March 28 in the Dorman Hall auditorium from 6-8 p.m.

Theta TauThe event, co-sponsored by the Bagley College of Engineering, will feature 10-15 minute presentations from speakers across a variety of academic disciplines. Each speaker’s presentation will show a road map featuring where the engineering field is now, and where the speaker thinks it could be headed in the future.

But while Theta Tau is an engineering fraternity, Theta Talks is open to the larger university community. Cristy Gerth, Theta Tau’s head of professional development, said that the purpose of the event is to educate people on a diverse scale.

“We have and will always feature speakers from all walks of life and all majors,” Gerth said. “Even though we are an engineering fraternity, business, entertainment, ethics, and philosophy are still very important topics to discuss.”

This year’s panel includes:

  • Lucas Ferguson, a microbiology and biochemistry student who is also a Gates Cambride Scholar
  • Jerry Emison, professor of political science and public administration
  • Jeffrey Rupp, director of outreach for Mississippi State’s college of business
  • Lakiesha Claude Williams, professor of biological engineering and director of the interdisciplinary human body simulation research group
  • Labrats improvisational comedy troupe

The event is free and open to the public. Engineer or not, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to come see where the future might be headed.
