August 10, 2018

Two Bagley College of Engineering students earned the 2018 Graduate Research Assistantship award by the Office of the Graduate School.

Shahriar Shahrokhabadi won the award for Ph.D. students while James Williams won the award for masters-level students. Both are pursuing degrees in civil and environmental engineering.

“These awards reflect the individual’s success and commitment to supporting the research of the university, and their scholarship during the time they have been at Mississippi State pursuing their degrees,” said Dennis Truax, the department head for the civil and environmental engineering department.

The awards are sponsored by Mississippi State University’s Graduate School and Graduate Student Association, with each winner receiving a monetary award and commemorative plaque.

Of the 11 nominees for the Ph.D. award, Shahrokhabadi was one of four nominees from the Bagley College of Engineering, along with fellow nominees Imram Aslam (mechanical engineering), Mojtaba Khanzadehdaghalian (industrial and systems engineering) and Muhammad Islam (electrical and computer engineering).

Williams was one of six masters students nominated for the graduate research award and the only nominee from engineering.
