Mississippi State chapter of Tau Beta Pi adds 33 new members

April 26, 2021

The Mississippi State chapter of Tau Beta Pi, an honors society for engineering students, recently inducted 33 new members into its ranks.

Tau Beta PiOpen to all engineering concentrations, Tau Beta Pi invites students based on grade point average and major-specific requirements. This semester’s class follows the 39-member fall 2020 class.

“The MS Alpha Chapter of TBP has seen an increase in number of officers and initiates, even with COVID making it difficult for outreach events and even initiation meetings,” said Matthew Priddy, the Tau Beta Pi chapter advisor and assistant professor of mechanical engineering in MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering. “This is primarily due to these remarkable students persevering through this unusual time to advance the TBP student chapter and prepare for the many post-COVID activities we have planned for the 2021-22 school year.”

Tau Beta Pi is the oldest universal engineering honor society and the second oldest honor society in the United States. It was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 and has over 248 chapters and 594,000 members at colleges and universities today. Mississippi State’s chapter, Mississippi Alpha, was established in 1928 and was the first chapter in Mississippi.
