Richard A. Rula School of Civil and Environmental Engineering surveying team earns first place win at surveying competition

August 23, 2023

The Bagley College of Engineering and the Richard A. Rula School of Civil and Environmental Engineering are proud to announce that the 2023 Mississippi State University surveying team came in at first place at the Gulf Coast Symposium ASCE UESI Surveying Competition held at the University of South Alabama this spring.

MSU’s team of four was tasked with preparing a topographic map using field data provided to the groups before the event began. They also completed a series of field exercises that included pacing distances, running a level loop, staking out a building and staking out a sewer line and computing the amount of cut along the sewer line for a given invert slope.

The surveying team also placed first at the 2022 symposium at Auburn and the 2021 virtual competition hosted by LSU. The 2023 team members are as follows:

Perry Foster, a senior civil engineering major from Park Beach, Illinois.

Alison Rinomhota, a senior civil engineering major from Zimbabwe.

Landon Rhodes, a civil engineering graduate from Madison, Mississippi. Rhodes graduated last spring with his undergraduate degree in civil engineering.

Coleman Vaughan, a civil engineering/environmental engineering major from Livingston, Alabama.
