Letter from the Dean: June 2023

June 1, 2023

Dear Faculty, Staff, Students and Friends of the Bagley College of Engineering:

I hope your summer is off to a great start. I ended the semester accompanying a delegation visiting the University of Arkansas Rome Center in Italy and the Universite Internationale de Rabat in Morocco. The goal is to foster academic and research partnerships, and it was a very productive visit. I also attended what may be Mississippi State University’s largest graduation ceremony on the evening of May 12th in Davis Wade Stadium. Fortunately for everyone at this ceremony, the weather was pleasant.

I am pleased to share with you some of our most recent stories:

  • Four Mississippi State University graduates received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
  • Aerospace engineering undergraduate student Joshua Brown was featured in our Student Spotlight.
  • Read the profiles of agricultural and biological engineering professor Joel Paz and electrical engineering assistant clinical professor David Wallace from the “Our People” series.
  • Electrical engineering alum Anthony Wilson was named the Alumnus of the Year for the Bagley College of Engineering. Wilson, who is chairman, president and CEO of Mississippi Power Company in Gulfport, MS, was recognized with other alumni from the other academic colleges around the university.
  • The academic affairs division of the university recognized employees with significant years of service. This includes those with five (Shane Brauer, Ali Gurbuz, Umar Iqbal, Julie Jessop, John Kooienga, Shana Lee, Like Li, Jeanett Mallett, Maryam Mirabolghasemi, Erma Murry, Devin Neal, Meg Tian, Brandon Warner, and Yizhi Xiang), ten (John Ball, Krystle Boyd, HeeJin Cho, Alta Knizley, Chris Latham, Adrian Sescu, and Farshid Vahedifard), fifteen (Doug Bammann, Meredith Betts, Richard Moore, Sandra Ortega Achury, and Kendra Posovich), twenty (Amy Barton, Sheree Bouchillon, Dana Lewis, Dee Newell, and Tamra Swann), twenty-five (Machaunda Bush and Jim Fowler), and thirty-five (Ed Luke) years of service. Congratulations to all!
