Hartzburg is one of just seven undergraduate students from around the world selected to receive the Post Foundation Scholarship. Recipients of the award exceed expectations both inside and outside of the academic realm. They are also invited to attend the annual Waste Management Symposia international conference.

“I would like to thank my mentors at the Institute for Clean Technology at Mississippi State, Ron Unz and Jay McCown,” said Hartzburg. “I would also like to thank my advisor, Kylie Crosland, as well as Ron. I would not have gotten this recognition without their support.”

A native of Lake Forest, Illinois, Hartzburg has had internships with a defense contractor working on hardware development and a petrochemical company doing electrical and instrumentation work. Currently, Hartzburg assists with research and development of autonomous vehicle platforms for radiological surveying at Mississippi State’s Institute for Clean Energy Technology.

“This scholarship motivated me to go into my summer internship and last semester of school with confidence and drive to finish strong,” said Hartzburg. “I also learned how to network with both young and experienced professionals, which is incredibly important in my academic and future professional career.”

Hartzburg recently spent eight weeks in Europe, travelling and studying with a program from Mississippi State. He is the chair of the ECE Ambassadors where their intent is to reach out to prospective high school students and recruit them to the engineering department.

“This scholarship also motivated me to work hard to be in a position in the future where I can help out students by providing them with scholarships,” said Hartzburg.
